HP FQ470AA Review by M. Blunt (Antioch, CA)
Well, I've had this pad for the past year and i think a few months ago i stopped using it and picked up a generic 2$ pad from frys cuz this thing was just was not working out... Yeah, It definitly started to warp and curve up after a few months, and it didn't help that i would set my coffee cup on it, i think that just made it worse.. I had this wierd tracking issue too, i figured it was something to do with my mouse being retarded vs. the silver stars in the graphics being too reflective... overall i bought this in store for like 14$ and well it was a nice thought for a few months but it just never was a satisfying experience. not recommended.

I noticed that most of the 4 or 5 star reviews have not owned the mouse pad long enough to experience this product is not durable. I use a Razer Imperator on the mouse pad, and the laser does not have any tracking issues, even on the graphics. Thats the most positive thing I can say about the product. Now to the bad stuff. I am not particularly sensitive to sounds, but as you move your mouse over the mouse pad a scrapping noise emits. I know this is pretty normal for a hard mouse pad, but the sound is noticeably louder, and louder means, more wear on the mouse feet, and less smooth.
The second bad thing about the mouse is that after a month of usage the mouse starts to curve up to create a little mound. This is particularly true for the areas that are consistently coming in contact with the wrists and hand. The base of the pad is less then ideal as it shifts and the problem only gets worse as mouse pad curves up and less area is in contact with the surface of the table.
I only purchased the product while looking for another product, and I do have the Razer Goliathus Fragged Control Edition on order. I would only recommend purchasing this product as a buffer until you upgrade to a better product, don't mind the flaws, or purchase the same product over and over.
Pros:
Price, I think you can purchase it around $15 and you can find cheaper prices if you shop around.
Surface tracking, I never had a real tracking problem when I play Starcraft 2 or raid in World of Warcraft.
Cons:
Sound, the scraping sound as you move your mouse around can get annoying, particularly for those that are sensitive to sound.
Rubber base, does move around as you move your mouse, especially if the mouse pad starts to warp.
Warping and curving, I don't know why HP decided to release a product with a major flaw like this. Heat, friction, or pressure may be the cause of this problem.

I've had this mat for over a year now. It started warping after a month. I dealt with it by using it at different angles where I could avoid the warp-age, which the size of the mat helped with, but eventually it was so warped that it was unusable. I tried flattening it, ironing it under a shirt, and peeling off the backing, all of which have been suggested in these comments. Ironing it then immediately putting it under heavy books helped a little, but not much. The surface is fantastic, this is a five-star product for one month. It's cheaper than some other mats, but it appears that this is a get-what-you-pay-for type thing.
